Cast Your Electronic Ballot in Fall 2008

mouseThe Town of Windsor will be offering electronic voting during the next municipal election. Why electronic voting? To give our voters an expanded choice of how and when to cast their ballots. Internet, telephone and wireless voting provide convenience for those who can't always make it to the polling station on Election Day. Starting October 10 at 8 a.m., you will be able to cast your vote electronically from anywhere at any time of day until 7 p.m. October 18. This fully-secure voting system has been chosen for other elections in Canada and is easy to use.

The Town of Windsor is one of four municipalities to offer electronic voting in the upcoming Nova Scotia municipal elections. By embracing electronic voting, we will make it easier for voters to participate and move forward our goal as a citizen centric, forward-thinking town.

In our last municipal election only 27% of eligible voters participated in the election. By offering this choice, we're hoping more eligible voters in the Town of Windsor will choose to exercise their democratic right to vote.

Not sure how electronic voting works? It's simple really. Each voter will be mailed a letter with a personal identification number (PIN) number on it. There will be a website address given for online voting and a toll free phone number for telephone voting. When the election period begins and you're ready to vote, simply choose which method you would like to use, enter your PIN number and your other voter credential and cast your vote. If you'd like to see how electronic voting works, visit inteliVote Systems and click on "view our self-running demo".

If you'd prefer to vote with the traditional method, paper ballots will be available at a polling station during the advance poll date(s) on 11th and 14th October 2008 and on Election Day, the 18th October 2008 at The Community Centre.

For any questions about electronic voting or the upcoming municipal election, contact Louis Coutinho, Chief Administrative Officer at 798-6675.
