Storm Preparedness - Emergency Info - Are you prepared?

Hurricane Tracker

Basic 72 hours Emergency Preparedness Kit:

Water (at least 2 litres per day per person and small bottles that can be easily carried);
Food that won't spoil (canned food, energy bars & dried food);
Manual can opener;
Flashlight(s) and batteries;
Battery powered or wind-up radio (and extra batteries);
First Aid Kit;
Special Needs Items (prescription medication, instant formula or equipment for people with disabilities);
Extra keys for house and car;
Cash (small bills & change for payphones); and
Emergency Plan (include a copy of it & ensure it contains in-town and out-of-town contact information.

Effective September 01, 2010 the Town of Windsor has switched to clear bags for the collection of garbage, along with some other changes to the Solid Waste Program. New Solid Waste Calendar & Sorting Guide

* NEW * Solid Waste Collection Calendar & Sorting Guide

The new Town of Windsor Solid Waste Collection Calendar & Sorting Guide are now available on-line. You will find your copy in the mail on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 or you may print them off here (they are formatted for legal (8.5 x 14) sized paper).

NOTE: There have been some changes made to the Solid Waste Policy that are effective Sept. 01, 2010. Some major highlights include:

Garbage MUST be in clear bags;
Max. number for garbage bags is 4 bags + 1 bulky item;
Max. number of recyclables is 4 bags + 2 bundles of cardboard;
Leaf & Yard Waste Collection allows max. of two bundles of brush & unlimited numbers of containers for leaves and grass clippings.

REMINDER: Effective September 01, 2010 the Town of Windsor will be switching to clear garbage bags. Some other key notes include:

Per dwelling unit:
Garbage: 4 bags + 1 bulky item;
Recycling: 4 bags + 2 bundles of corrugated cardboard;
Leaf & Yard Waste: 2 bundles of brush/branches and unlimited containers of leaves & grass clippings.

There are some other changes and the above does not include multiple dwelling units. For more detailed information, refer to the Solid Waste Collections Policy Effective Sept 2010 (59.52 kB).

New Solid Waste Policy

Council and staff are very proud of Windsor residents and businesses in your efforts to reduce waste going to the landfill by separating organics, recyclables and garbage. At the June 22, 2010 Town Council Meeting, Windsor Town Council approved the new Solid Waste Collections Policy (59.52 kB), effective September 01, 2010.

Although it may sound contradictory that your great work has resulted in these changes; it is not. As a matter of fact, those that do source separate their waste, the only change you will notice is the colour of bag you use. Those that may have quite a few solid-coloured bags left (black or green), you will still have the opportunity to use them up prior to implementation of the policy on September 1, 2010 or use them for privacy bags in the future.
