Artifacts include the equipment with which the game began - wooden pucks, hand-made one-piece hockey sticks carved by the Mi'kmaq natives, stock skates and world-famous Starr skates - as well as early forms of protective equipment. Fort Edward National Historic Site

As you explore the history of the Acadians, don't miss the last surviving blockhouse in Nova Scotia and the oldest such original structure in North America. Built by the British in 1750, Fort Edward once guarded the overland route between Halifax and the Bay of Fundy. Between 1755 and 1762, Fort Edward served as the detention centre for the deportation of more than 1,000 Acadians. Although British troops stayed on at Fort Edward until the early 19th century, its strategic importance rapidly declined.

Haliburton House Provincial Museum

Visit Judge Thomas Chandler Haliburton's elegant wooden villa, furnished with Victorian period furniture and some of Haliburton's own possessions, including the desk where he wrote his famous "Sam Slick" stories.

Shand House Provincial Museum

Built in 1891, this late Victorian home features woodwork and some marvelously crafted furniture from the Windsor Furniture Factory. View the display of Clifford Shand's medals and memorabilia from the early days of the sport of bicycling. Enjoy the panoramic view of the Avon River from the tower.
