Summer is on its way and so are the recreation programs.

Registration is Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 6-9pm at the Windsor Community Centre and continues until the start of each program. More info is available in the below brochures and the registration forms.

Windsor's FREE Recreation Sites & Equipment!

Basketball - Drop by to shoot some hoops at the basketball courts behind the Water Street (waterfront) Tim Horton's on the waterfront.

Windsor Skate Park - Skateboard, scooter or bike at the Windsor Skate Park located on the Windsor waterfront (Lake Pisiquid).  NOTE:  Helmets are required!

Waterfront Exercise Equipment - All ages are welcome to enjoy the outdoor exercise equipment located on the waterfront (Lake Pisiquid) by Tim Horton's.

DAY CAMP PROGRAM - Day Camp Program (ages 5-9) These seven camps will keep children entertained and active this summer with games, songs, crafts, daily trips to the pool, weekly special guests, sport tutorials and day trip adventures.
Day Camps are as follows unless otherwise stated:

Cost: $100.00 - $125.00/week or $30.00/day

Each program must have sufficient registration to run, so please register early! Please ensure you are registered the Thursday before the program begins!

Week #1 “Canada’s 150th!” July 4-7, 2017 $100.00

Oh Canada! School is OUT and camp is IN! Come out and kick off the summer and celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday! Join us as we discover what our beautiful country has to offer by exploring trails, going swimming and visiting heritage sites throughout Windsor, such as Long Pond on the Dill Family Farm where hockey first began.

Week #2 “All Aboard!” July 10 - 14, 2017 $125.00

Welcome aboard to the Windsor Recreation Cruise Ship! Let’s take a cruise where we will learn how to make towel animals and take part in a poker chip scavenger hunt in the community centre! We will dock the cruise ship throughout the week and visit local destinations such as the Trecothic Creek & Windsor Railway! Grab your hat, towel and sunscreen as we will be headed to the pool every day! Keep your eyes open for various Disney characters coming aboard the cruise!

Week #3 “Outdoor Explorers” July 17 – 21, 2017 $125.00

Let your senses be your guide as you discover sights and sounds all around in the woods, creeks and trails! Look for woodland gnomes – the magical gardeners of the natural world and learn the secrets to reconnecting with nature. All explorers will learn diverse skills such as how to tie proper knots and key survival skills. Campers will also get the opportunity to splash in the water at the Hants Aquatic Centre! So get ready and let’s go on an adventure to connect with nature, explore wildlife and be woodland gardeners!

Week #4 “GO FOR THE GOLD!” July 24 – 28, 2017 $125.00

The Windsor Summer Olympics are just around the corner! Olympics are a celebration of FRIENDSHIP, UNITY and PEACE. Throughout the week campers will do various activities involving these values. Athletes will be given the opportunity to work on various skills such as long jump, shot put and relay. Campers will be able to create their own team flags, medals and experience an Olympic opening ceremony! Use this week to train for the competition and bring home a medal!

Week #5 “Backyard Bash” July 31 – August 4, 2017 $125.00

Come join your friends as we enjoy the summer sun! Campers will partake in summertime classic games such as tug-of-war, soccer-baseball, nature games, recycling projects and various lawn games, including washer toss and ladder golf! Be sure to bring sunscreen as we will be outside lots and swimming every day! On Friday we will attend the Wet ‘n’ Wild pool party!

Week #6 “Drama-o-rama!” August 8 – 11, 2017 $100.00

Lights! Camera! Action! Come join us for dramatic fun in Windsor! Campers imaginations will run wild and their creativity will soar as they challenge themselves with different activities. This week we will doing several crafts such as making puppets, costumes and even showing off our own talents by participating in the Windsor Recreation Talent Show. We will get to see behind the scenes at the Mermaid Theatre! Don’t miss the show!

Week #7 “Spaced-Out!” August 14 – 18, 2017 $125.00

3.. 2.. 1.. BLAST OFF! Calling all astronauts and extra-terrestrials to the galaxy of Windsor Recreation. Come out and learn about the solar system, collect moon rocks and play games that are out of this world. Thursday night we will become astronomers for our 12th annual sleepover as we search the sky for the constellations and shooting stars! (Please note there will be no regular day camp for August 17th & 18th. Sleepover drop-off is Thursday at 4:00pm & pickup will be at 8:30am Friday morning).



NEW Multi Sport Camp Program (ages 9-12). These seven camps will introduce campers to fundamental movement skills such as running, skipping, throwing, catching and jumping. Campers will have the opportunity to test out their new skills while trying out different sports each day. Campers will also enjoy swimming everyday at the Hants Aquatic Centre.

Week #1 Kick It! July 4 - 7, 2017 $100.00

Some dream about goals - we achieve them here at Windsor Recreation! Let’s hit the field and play some of the most popular summer sports like soccer, rugby and football! Aside from the field we will be doing fundamental movements, traditional and self-defense karate so get your kicks and come on out! Challenge yourself as we take these skills and use them every day in the pool!

Week #2 Shoot It! July 10 -14, 2017 $125.00

They SHOOT, they SCORE! Come out and learn how to play some true Canadian sports. Players from the national bronze medalists Acadia hockey team will be making an appearance to teach you some hockey skills! This week we will be focusing on sports that will enhance hand-eye coordination and working together as a team. We will be playing a variety of sports such as hockey, lacrosse, baseball, golf and archery! It is important to bring lots of water and sunscreen as most of these sports require being outside. Challenge yourself to a game of underwater hockey at the pool!

Week #3 Whack It! July 17 -21, 2017 $125.00

Sports that include using a racquet or stick are great for hand-eye coordination which can be applied in various sports. From serves to stickhandling to sets, we will be learning it all! The sports this week include pickleball, badminton, tennis, ping pong, floor hockey and more. We will cool off each day at the pool!

Week #4 Track It! July 24 -28, 2017 $125.00

Don’t chase your dreams, run them down! Track and Field is one of the biggest events at the summer Olympics so let’s train together and become some of the strongest, fastest athletes around Windsor! Our week long track meet will consist of a variety of different running events, shot-put, long jump and baton relay! So get your running shoes, water bottles, sun screen and let the games begin! Daily swims will give athletes a chance to cool off.

Week #5 Bounce It! July 31 – Aug. 4, 2017 $125.00

PRACTISE makes PERFECT! Come out and learn new skills while practising sports like basketball, volleyball, tchukball and handball! This diverse group of sports focuses on skills such as bouncing, footwork and a positive attitude. So come bounce, show us your skills and learn some new ones while you’re here! Practise your slam dunk at the pool!

Week #6 Move It! Aug. 8 – 11, 2017 $100.00

Let’s get OUT and get MOVING! This week focuses on making better athletes by learning diverse skills that will benefit everyone in every sport. Campers will get the chance to relax by doing yoga, get moving by doing Zumba and tumbling by doing gymnastics! So let’s get ready to move and groove! Don’t forget to bring your bathing suit and towel as we will cool off in the pool every day!

Week #7 Splash It! Aug. 14 - 18, 2017 $125.00

Grab your towel and your sun screen and let’s get wet n’ wild while learning a variety of water sports! This week we will be focusing on the fundamentals of water sports including swimming, diving and water polo. Participate in aquafit and try canoeing and kayaking at the Hants Aquatic Centre! Let’s turn some heads and make some waves! (Please note there will be no regular day camp for August 17th & 18th. Sleepover drop-off is Thursday at 4:00pm & pickup will be at 8:30am Friday morning).



This program provides the opportunity for youth to be a part of the Windsor Recreation team. Youth will gain valuable knowledge and essential skills on how to be a fun and safe leader through workshops. Participants will be given the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learned by working with our summer programs. All Junior Leaders will accompany day campers in all day trips including daily trips to the Hants Aquatic Centre so bring appropriate swimwear. Come join the fun and get involved with Windsor Recreation this summer!

Discovering your Leadership Style -- July 10 – 14, 2017 $50.00

This week focuses on finding out more about yourself and your leadership skills. It will allow you to understand what kind of leadership style you demonstrate as well as working together as a team to demonstrate all leadership styles together.

Becoming an Outdoor Leader -- July 17 – 21, 2017 $50.00

This week provides youth with knowledge of how to survive outdoors and also promotes active living by going on hikes and being outside. Leaders will learn about key outdoor concepts such as sun safety, basic equipment and how to connect with nature.

Sports Leadership -- July 24 – 28, 2017 $50.00
This week focuses on teaching youth about the fundamental movement skills, how to properly lead physical activity games and to be more aware of their bodies through physical literacy.

Leadership through Aquatics -- July 31 – August 4, 2017 $50.00

Junior leaders will learn skills that are essential to leading aquatic activities. With the Hants Aquatic Centre so close, youth are provided with an opportunity to develop aquatic safety skills, risk management and the basics of leading aquatic games and activities.

Creating a Happy Community -- August 8 – 11, 2017 $40.00

This week focuses on being leaders within the community by learning what makes a community happy, learning about Windsor and mental health. Mental health is a concern in any community so it is important that people understand the importance of this topic. This week will include learning about both community well-being and personal well-being and what you can do to help.


Extended Care & Day Camp

The Recreation Dept. will be offering extended care before & after day camp programs frm 8:00 - 9:00am and 400 - 5:00pm.  The cost for the service is $30/week or $6/day, or $50/week per family.  Please register for extended care the Thursday BEFORE your child's camp begins by contacting us at 902-792-1948 or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Swimming Lessons & Day Camp

Is your child enrolled in Day Camp but wants to attend swimming lessons too? Tell us prior to the start of camp and we’ll make sure that your child is escorted from Day Camp to the pool and back by one of our staff members. When you arrive it is your responsibility to let the day camp staff know of the times and sessions of swimming lessons that your child is enrolled in.


Recreational Soccer

Recreational Soccer - $35/child/session
The focus of this program is on FUN, participation, and learning soccer through fundamental movement skills.  We incorporate songs and games into this recreational soccer program.  Children are required to wear sneakers and to bring a water bottle.  Soccer balls are provided.  Parents are encouraged to participate by helping your child stay with the group.  This program is held at Elmcroft Park in Windsor (next to the Hants Aquatic Centre (pool)).  If the weather is poor, the program will be held in the Windsor Community Centre auditorium, 78 Thomas St.

Special Events 2017

16th Annual Provincial 5km Run (all ages)
This run is part of the Run Nova Scotia Series.  Register on-line anytime at  Registration begins in-person on June 8th at registration night at the Windsor Community Center from 6-9pmn and continues at the Town Office, 100 King St., Windsor until July 28, 2017.

Day-of-race registration is on-site beginning at 7:45a.m.  Meet at the Windsor Community Centre, 78 Thomas Street.

Child care will be provided from 8:30 - 10:00am for $5/family payable at check-in.  After the race, particpants, families and friends are invited to join us at the Hants Aquatic Center for a FREE pool party.

Avon River Days Family Fun Day - Activities include a two-hour wet 'n wild pool party at the Hants Aquatic Centre from 2 - 4pm followed by a BBQ and activities in Elmcroft Park from 3 - 5pm.  Enjoy water balloons, parachute games, face painting, and much more!  Price includes pool party, hot dog, drink, and activities in the park.  Please note that pool passes are not applicable.

Avon River Day Children's Parade - Face painting and balloons will be provided starting at 12:30pm in the Community Centre, 78 Thomas St.  For more info, contact 902-792-1948.

After the event, participants and their family's are invited to join us at the Hants Aquatic Centre for a pool party followed by a BBQ in Elmcroft Park.

Everyone is Welcome!

Inclusion and accessible leisure services are essential to a person's quality of life. Persons who require support are encouraged to participate in all programs and services offered by the Windsor Recreation Department. If you or a family member require support to be involved in our programs, do not hesitate to contact us. We will arrange to meet the family and individuals prior to the start of the program to identify appropriate program options and support necessary to assist the participant. We believe that inclusion is a partnership between Windsor Recreation staff and families, and that good communication is essential to a successful experience.

Fair and Safe Play

The Windsor Recreation Department is committed to the practices of "Fair and Safe Play" with staff, participants, parents, and coaches. This respect and philosophy is reflected in our programs, services and those initiatives we support through grants.

Refund Policy

  • If the Town of Windsor Recreation Department cancels a program, workshop or Community Centre booking for any reason, a full refund will be issued.
  • A refund will be granted for medical reasons after the start of a program if accompanied by a doctorÙs certificate. Program fees will be prorated based on the number of classes which have passed or credit may be used toward future recreation programs and services.
  • Other requested refunds will be issued and prorated based on the number of classes which have passed. An additional $5.00 administration fee will be charged per participant, per program.
  • Please allow 4 weeks for refund processing. Refunds are not mailed.
  • All refunds can be picked up at the Town Office reception.
